Extremely Easy to Set Up and Use
This Defender system functions just like a computer, with a mouse for pointing and clicking and an intuitive icon-based menu that provides prompts and coaching to assist you in navigating the system. It’s even so simple to use it will begin recording as soon as it’s plugged in.
View Your Camera Footage From Anywhere In The World
Whether monitoring your business or home, view your footage live online, anytime and anywhere with PC or Mac. You can also view footage on almost any smartphone, including iPhone, BlackBerry, Android, Windows Mobile, or Symbian, as well as on your iPad and most major tablets.
Instant Email Alerts If Activity Detected
Instantly know if suspicious activity is happening on your property. This Defender system is designed to send you an email alert, complete with photo, if any motion is detected on your property or if any of your cameras experience video loss.
IR Cut Filter For Crisp and Detailed Video You Can Rely On
Your security system is only worthwhile if you can actually see the person stealing from you. Defender cameras are equipped with 600 TV lines of resolution and an IR cut filter to enhance color and detail. The DVR records in D1 resolution, which is the equivalent of 704 x 480 pixels or DVD quality. The result is clear, crisp and accurate video feed.
Two years’ Worth of Footage Storage – and More If You Need It
The included 500GB hard drive allows continuous monitoring and recording of over two years’ worth of footage! Your DVR sends an alert when your memory space is full so that you can choose to overwrite old video or stop the unit from recording. The built-in USB port gives you the option of backing up and transferring your video footage with a USB flash drive or external USB hard drive. And if you need to expand your storage even further, you can choose to record only when motion is detected. This DVR uses H.264 compression which maximizes recording time, transfers data more efficiently over the internet and you’ll use 50% less storage space than traditional compressions - MPEG4, MJPEG - while still benefitting from high-quality imagery.
When Everyone Else is Asleep, Our Cameras Are Watching Closely
The things that go bump in the night are sometimes a thief making off with your big-screen TV. Defender cameras are equipped with night vision that automatically activates. Thirty-six infrared ClearVu LEDs provide crisp and detailed night imagery as you monitor from up to 100ft away, even in complete darkness. So thieves may think they’re lurking in the dark but you can rest assured Defender will see them.
Rain or Snow Won’t Stop Us
Criminals don’t take the night off if it’s raining. Neither do our cameras. They’re weather resistant and ensure optimal picture quality no matter what Mother Nature decides to throw at you, be it rain, hail or snow. The professional-grade aluminum housing, complete with sunshade, will protect against rust, deterioration and glare. So no matter what’s going on outside, Defender will be ready.

leepoffaith 4 Very Good Security System Overall
I have been shopping around for a security system for my home for several months. There are many different options out there that have a wide variety of features and prices. I wanted a system that had 8 cameras with 600 TVL (D1 quality), a DVR that included a hard drive and would record 24/7, and a system that would allow me to view the video remotely from either a computer or cell phone. This system included all those features plus more at a very reasonable price.
I just finished setting up a few of the cameras and overall I'm very pleased with this security system. The cameras seem to be very well made, they each have an adjustable sun visor and I love the fact that wires are automatically hidden into the wall. It makes for a very clean installation and prevents anyone from being able to cut them. The included mounting hardware worked fine for mounting the cameras into cinder block walls, but I did need to drill the anchor holes a little larger then what was stated. The kit includes a roll of wire for each camera (65 ft each I believe) which was plenty to run the cameras where I needed to. Note: Make sure to pay attention to the labels on the wires that say "To camera" or "To DVR". The ends of the wires may the look the same, but they aren't and I had to rerun one of the wires because I missed this. The physical installation of the cameras does take time, but it was fairly easy as long as you have some general carpentry skills.
While the physical installation of the cameras was not difficult, the same can not be said for the setup of the DVR and camera software. I consider myself very tech savvy and it still took me several hours to tweak all the camera settings, get the network up and running and make sure it was recording the way I wanted it to. The manual is OK in guiding you during this process, but a basic knowledge of computers/software as well as networks and port forwarding is highly recommended if you want to system to perform optimally. This is not a "plug it in and we are done" type of setup. You really need to adjust the settings on each camera to make sure it's recording the clearest picture it can. I think this is probably the case with all systems, not just this one.
After getting everything set up properly this system performs GREAT! The cameras capture a very clear picture and the night vision is excellent. The emailing feature is very nice and I have it setup to email me a picture anytime it senses motion at the front door. Thus far the motion sensor feature has worked flawlessly and you even have the ability to choose a specific area in the camera's vision to sense motion and then ignore motion anywhere else. The iPhone app, while not Defender branded, is also excellent. The setup was fairly easy and the features it offers really surprised me. For instance, you have the ability to watch any of your cameras live and then video record or snap a picture from any of the them at any time. This video or picture is then stored on your iPhone!
Overall I'm extremely pleased with this security system. It has performed above my expectations and is an extremely good value for your money. I do highly recommend purchasing this system if you are in the market for one, but please make sure to spend the time and setup the software and DVR properly. If you don't do this the system will not perform anywhere near it's full potential. The only reason I rated it 4 stars instead of 5 was because of the cumbersome software setup. Other then that, it's a 5 star system all the way.
