Been using this for 2 months now and totally love it. The mobile app is great
I volunteered to participate in the testing of this product and wanted to share my honest review.
The camera provides a high quality image (daytime and night time). Instructions could be a bit clearer regarding the Ethernet cable and where instillation videos can be found.
Camera was easy to setup although a bit heavy.
Overall I’m very satisfied with this wireless IP camera. Would recommend to a friend.
Works just fine
Easy setup with the manuals and videos available on Defender web site Support Centre. Image is of excellent quality. Recorded sequences cannot be read on our older iPad, but fine on newer iPhone.
Hard to set up!
I was excited to receive the Defender 2K (4MP) Wireless IP Camera. My husband tried to install it and well it was not easy. Once he had it up and running the picture quality is very good and the app is free and easy to use.
Easy to use wireless camera, feeling secured.
Defender 2k(4MP) camera can be used stand alone or if needed one can add more camera's too. Installation of this camera is very easy. Instructions provided in box are helpful. This camera requires power source within 10 ft as the cord is 10 ft long. Recordings are stores in SD card which is included, if needed can be expanded. Live feed can be viewed remotely. Also specific time table can be set for recordings on daily basis. The camera is enclosed in IP67 for weather resistance. You can set the camera with wireless or LAN connection. The application is very good and working properly. It detects Human motion instantly and send alert to you in app, and small recording of the event. Picture quality is good for day as well as night time., which you can set to SD or HD. Overall its nice security camera, its giving me safe feeling when i am away from my home.
So far I'm happy with the camera. The instructions don't help and make things confusing and frustrating. There's not an app called "defender smart signal" just search "smart signal" from there setup should be fairly simple. I like the SD card comes with, which can be, (I would assume) switched out with a mew 1 once this 1 is maxed, or maybe you can delete video of the SD card if you don't need anything off of it, again instructions do not mention anything about this. For this camera there's 2 options either Wi-Fi or hard connect. After you download the app you can customize it to your liking of certain times if you want it to record only then, motion sensors, night vision, etc. Overall pretty nice piece of equipment for piece of mind. Just needs A LOT better instructions and layout on how the product works and the functions.
Defender 2k Wireless IP Camera
The setup installation of the camera was a little challenging but with customer services help it was a breeze. More detailed instructions would have been helpful. The camera itself has a very clear crisp picture and the app that accompanies it is very easy to use. I use the camera on human detection mode and it notifies me on my phone when it detects any
human motion. Overall I’m very happy with the quality of the defender camera and app.
Great For Small Spaces
I installed this camera a couple weeks ago and the installation was very easy. The video showed high quality HD viewing and very clear pictures. I didn't like that I was not able to zoom in on my phone to get closer look at things. It also is a little difficult to view things at night. I think this camera is better for smaller spaces or rooms.
Small and compact
This is a great little camera for my front porch. It wasn't very difficult to install, got my son-in-law to help anchor it. Easy to set up and definitely gives us some security with all of the theft of packages going on.
Easy to Use
Great camera for people who are not so tech savvy, easy to setup and use. As an employee of the company that owns this brand, I volunteered to participate in the testing of this product and wanted to share my honest review.
Gets the job done.
This is a one camera set up. It Features a 2K (4MP) HD resolution, 127-degree wide angle lens, remote viewing. The Defender 2K IP security camera will Record directly. You can use 16GB SD card or view your video footage on the free Defender SmartSignal phone app. The camera dose requires access to power.
The Camera is weather resistant. It has a metal housing to protect it from different weathers. The defender was easy to put together. Screw the antenna on,plug the power cord in. Next connect to Wi-Fi..
The instruction were quite simple. Yet, i had a very different time geting this camera to connect. The Camera showed no signs of it being truned on. I had the most difficult time trying to get it to connect to Wi-Fi. I Finally got it to work. I noticed it works better in the day time. The quality of the footage is good. My only issues was getting it to turn on. It does get the job done. I am happy with that.
Can’t get it to work
I give up. I’ve tried so hard to make this camera work. It won’t connect to my WiFi. I tried probably 20 times and it just won’t connect. I made 100% sure I had the correct password and my phone was right next to the camera with the volume turned all the way up. So I had to dig out an old Ethernet cable and connect it that way. I did finally get it connected with the Ethernet cable, then unplugged it and moved it to the outlet I’d be using to install it and it actually was able to hold on to the connection...for less than 5 minutes. I was figuring out exactly where I wanted to install it, checking my phone to see what the picture looked like and then all of a sudden it lost connection again. It was still plugged in and everything. I waited and waited to see if it would reconnect on its own. Nope! Tried resetting it and it still didn’t reconnect. I was not about to reconnect it to the Ethernet cable. Once I installed it, the Ethernet cable would never reach the camera so I can’t just keep reconnecting it. For the record I have several other cameras (indoor ones) that are connected and stay connected to my WiFi with no issues. I am glad I didn’t drill any holes in my house to install this yet!
Love it once I got it figured out
In my mind this was as simple as put the camera where I want it and log into the app. It was more complicated. I had a lot of trouble connecting to the camera and wound up (with the help of someone more tech savvy) getting it to work by initially plugging it into the modem directly. Personally, I'd recommend just starting with that and skipping trying to connect via wifi for the set-up. Once it was connected the app worked great via the wifi so it was just the set-up that was causing my problems. Our second issue was that it has a somewhat short power cord and the place I wanted to put it didn't have an outlet nearby. It's just something to keep in mind. Between the initial set-up issues, the power, and spring weather it took much longer to get into place than I had hoped but now that it's up I'm loving it. The connection is good and clear and the app is easy to use. I'm able to keep an eye on my kids playing in the backyard while I get work done inside.
Pros: Works great once you've got it set up.
Cons: Set-up wasn't easy (although once I got help from a friend it we got it figured out fairly quickly). The power cord is just too short. We wound up running a dedicated outlet to where I wanted it.
Having this camera is great and is a good deterrent and better than our video doorbell. We like the motion detection of when someone arrives at the front door. I feel safe and sound having this camera in view of our front door.
